Paul Juszczk – Reflection

Being a part of the Fed Challenge Practicum has been an incredible experience, and I feel so glad to have been apart of it. At first, I had lots of doubts when I joined the team. I was not convinced that this was the right fit for me, or whether I’d be able to contribute sufficiently already with a really packed schedule-and at a very high level of expertness, it seemed to me. After a short conversation with Mallory and Brenda, assuring me this could be an opportunity and maybe get out of their comfort zone, I took the opportunity. It was one of the best decisions I have made so far this semester.

Right from the beginning of joining, I was impressed with the group I got a chance to work with. It is a small group of highly intelligent and committed individuals working in the background to put together a well-researched, professional video submission for the Federal Reserve.

Their commitment to excellence was inspirational; it was obvious that every individual brought their own strengths and experiences to the group. Despite the fact that I was new into the group, and I had a very small window to contribute, I personally felt welcomed and was able to help with several things that were useful to the team (the ducks).

The ideas that could be brainstormed, reviewing scripts, or supporting the logistical tasks of the team in whatever way possible that is where I have tried to help. Even though my time was quite short, I managed to learn extensively about monetary policy and the role of the Federal Reserveand also about the art of presenting complex economic concepts in a rather compact and interesting way.

This experience has expanded my knowledge in economics, but at the same time, it truly taught methe spirit of cooperation and coming out of one’s comfort zone. It was an absolute privilege to work alongside such talented peers, and leaving this challenge, I was truly inspired, with much more confidence in my ability to tackle new opportunities.
